The Silo Club

Architect's Vision

A Letter from the Architect:

The unbelievable natural topography & landforms throughout the property are unlike anything I have seen in the Midwest. Land like this is not typically associated nor thought of in the State of Iowa. The new 9 hole routing is elegant with a nice flow to it. The green settings will be fantastic when completed. I am especially excited about the proposed greens at Holes 5, 6, 7 & 8. The course is a Par 36 and will play at 3,600 yards from the tips as currently drawn out on paper but could be lengthened even further in the field once construction begins.

The green complexes along with what we will call “the finer details” are what will ultimately set this golf course apart from other 9 hole facilities across the country. With this being a 9 hole course, it allows us to take the extra time to really focus on the little things that make the classic & timely golf courses so special. The shaping of the golf course will not be rushed & we will be taking our time to get these amazing, quaint & intricate shaping details just right while blending them naturally into the existing landscape. I plan to be onsite 2-3 days weekly working closely with the shaper & laborers to get these intricacies dialed in & tight before the seed & sod ever goes down.

The ‘old school’ clubhouse is still currently under construction but will have the look & feel of a nice Iowa farmstead, not too big and simple. A large patio will be built off the back overlooking #9 green, #1 & #4 tees as well as the large 25,000 SF Putting Green that will connect seamlessly into #9 green. Constructed with wooden shakes and old reclaimed wood, the clubhouse will be iconic and a staple of the property. Quaint, elegant & classy with a Midwest homey feel is the goal…..comfortable like being at home. The family also purchased an old wooden silo from 1926 that will be rebuilt on site to mark the opening of the new course but more importantly, to pay homage to the Club’s 100-year anniversary. This silo is the inspiration for the Club’s new logo.

I am extremely excited about this project for many reasons. The best thing about being a Golf Course Architect is the people you work with & the team that you compile to get the job done right. The Vier’s are a great family that makes you feel as though you are part of their family as well. That alone puts pressure on me as an architect to give them a product that’s not just good, it must be GREAT! We are also very fortunate to have hired top tier contractors and consultants to ensure this project will be special when unveiled in 2026. When completed, The Silo Club will be one of the best and most unique 9-hole golf courses in the country. We are all set and ready to rock…
